Product Update

Ask an agency owner what drives production and you’ll hear about programs, leads, and producer headcount. Ask about their comp plan and you’ll just hear about the amount of time it takes the team to “run the spreadsheet.”

But owners know that the comp plan can be a growth lever. It decides what leads producers chase, which business they write, and whether your best people stay. Yet at most agencies it lives in a workbook that one person understands, takes ages to update, and is prone to errors.

Producers close more business with the right comp plan. And AI agents are now making the right comp plan easy to build.

AccountAim is introducing our AI-powered Commission Engine. Tell the agent how you want to pay, or upload your plan document and carrier schedules. It builds the rules, tests them against your real policies, and flags anything it isn’t sure about. From then on, AccountAim applies them to every policy and shows every producer exactly how they were paid.

Why comp plans get stuck in spreadsheets

Owners know their comp plan matters. But legacy software has never kept up with how agencies want to incentivize their producer team. The AMS struggles to express your specific rules and edge cases. Some rules (looking at you, Medicare) are too complex to understand. And the mess of spreadsheets makes testing new plans cumbersome.

Why AI agents now make this easy: Introducing AccountAim’s Commission Engine

The hard part of commissions was consolidating, understanding, and translating agreements across dozens of entities into exact rules, then keeping those rules current as plans, producers and carrier schedules change. That translation work is what our agents do.

Introducing the Commission Engine

The Commission Engine turns your comp plan into rules AccountAim runs for you, every month, on every policy.

1. Build any comp plan, with no limits on granularity
Any component your plan uses is available: rates by transaction type, line of business or carrier; percent of commission, percent of premium, flat fees or tiers; producer and CSR splits; overrides with a clear order of priority. If you have the data point, you can write a rule on it, or just ask the agent to.

2. You describe it, the agent builds it
Explain a plan the way you’d explain it to a new hire: “Tony gets 50% on new business and 30% on renewals. When he works with Crystal they split 60/40. Nobody gets paid on new business that fails audit.” The agent turns that into rules and shows you what it built in plain language.

3. Turn carrier PDFs into rules
Carrier comp schedules usually arrive as PDFs. The agent reads them into structured rules, versioned by contract and the year the policy was sold. When next year’s schedule lands, the agent drafts the updates and shows you what changed, instead of you rebuilding the spreadsheet.

4. Change the plan without breaking it
Ask the agent “what happens if we move renewals to 35%?” and see the impact on every producer’s payout before you commit. Update a split, add a producer, or apply a special arrangement to an entire acquired book in one step.

5. Show every producer how they were paid
Every payout traces back to the policy, the carrier statement line and the rule that produced it. Paired with the Producer Portal, producers can ask why a payment looks the way it does and get a plain-English answer, and your finance team gets its time back.

6. Catch problems before payroll
Payouts that don’t reconcile or that trigger conflicting rules land in one review queue. The agent explains the likely cause of each one, such as an outdated schedule, a missing split or a carrier timing issue. Producer payouts and house-retained commission tie out to what carriers actually paid.

What this means for your agency: better incentives, more revenue

A comp plan you can change is a comp plan you can use. Want more new business in a line you’re growing? Want to reward retention? Want to stop targeting non-standard auto? Ask the agent, preview the impact, and roll it out that month.

Producers win too. When they can see exactly how every dollar was calculated, they stop second-guessing their checks and start focusing on the business that pays. Less time reconciling pay means more time selling.

“Producers live on commissions. When producers understand what they get rewarded for, their behavior quickly shifts. It’s the biggest growth lever an owner has. Our agents do the tedious translation work, so owners can figure out which business they should be prioritizing and get producers pointed in that direction within the month.”
